Dear Colleagues
It is a pleasure to announce the COST MP0805 two day training school on “New Trends in III-V-N materials and devices” to be held in Delphi, Greece from 08/10/09 to 09/10/09. The scope of the school is to introduce the exciting research field of nitride materials to post graduate students and young scientists, emphasizing on current trends and applications.
The training school along with the COST MP0805 Workshop is collocated with the ICO Topical meeting on “Emerging Trends and Novel Material in Photonics” (http://www.ico-photonics-delphi2009.org/) and also with COST MP0604 (http://www.photomat.it/cost/MP0604.html) events. In this way the benefits for the trainees will be maximized as they will have the chance to interact with the conference and COST actions (MP0805 and MP0604) participants.
The school is organized in two thematic areas:
I. Growth and characterization of III-V-N materials
II. Theory, design and applications of III-V-N materials
The topics to be covered include
· “MBE growth of dilute nitrides” by Prof M. Guina, Optoelectronics Research Centre Tampere University of Technology, FI
· “MBE growth of InGaN and related alloys”, by Prof E. Iliopoulos, University of Crete and FORTH, GR
· “Electronic conduction in III-V-N compounds” by Prof A. Patane, University of Nottingham , UK
· “Advanced optical spectroscopy” by Prof J. Misiewicz, Wrocław University of Technology, PO
· “Bundstructure theory of dilute nitrides” by Prof E. O’ Reilly, Tyndall Institute, IE
· “Dilute nitrides for optical surface-normal operating devices” by Dr S. Calvez, University of Strathclyde, UK
· “Acoustic devices based on III-V-N materials” by Dr A. Muller, IMT-Bucharest, RO
· “Room temperature spin dynamics in dilute nitride semiconductors” by Prof X Marie, INSA Toulouse, FR
· “GaN LEDs” by Prof. M. Sigalas, University of Patras, GR
Important facts and dates:
1. The living and travel expenses of thirty participants of the school will be reimbursed to the amount of 600 euros each.
2. The interested students and young scientists who wish to attend the school must express their interest by e-mail to Dr. D. Alexandropoulos dalexa@upatras.gr (please CC e-mails to Prof N. Balkan balkan@essex.ac.uk and Prof N. Vainos vainos@upatras.gr ) by MONDAY 03 AUGUST 2009 the LATEST. It is important to note that this is a HARD DEADLINE imposed by COST Office application processing procedures.
3. In the case that the school applicant is not a member of the COST MP0805 action he/she must register to one or more of the WGs by Monday 03 August 2009 the LATEST. For registration to one or more WGs please contact the COST MP0805 Chair Prof Naci Balkan balkan@essex.ac.uk.
4. School participants can benefit from the reduced accommodation rates that the ICO 2009 Topical Meeting Organizers have secured through the conference website (log on to http://www.ico-photonics-delphi2009.org/, press the “registration tab” and then the “accommodation registration tab”). Please note that 70 euros deposit is required.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further information.
Looking forward to welcoming you in Delphi,
With best regards
